Dangerous Electronics
|
Build your own zapper by first building your own high-voltage capacitor out of the supplies provided. You may
choose to build a either of two more challenge options: a working electric motor, and a "mystery" project. The most dangerous
part of this class is that it could change your mind about the wonderful field you plan to devote your life to, causing you
to instead choose electronics. All supplies are provided, and all that's required is resonable skill with the hands,
brain, and some curiosity. The session will start with a brief explanation of the projects
and how they work, followed by interactive, hands-on construction and play.

Life on the Roll: A View from a Wheelchair
|
Wheelchairs are everywhere nowadays. You see them at the mall, the post
office, airports and even at homeschooling conferences. They don't all look the same, so perhaps people use them
for different reasons? This wheelchair user will explain the various conditions which make using a wheelchair necessary. We'll
discuss the particular problems and opportunities it creates. If you have ever wondered what wheeled-life is like, you'll
have a chance to test-drive three different kinds of manual wheelchairs (ones without a motor, which you push by hand). We
will also see how a car can be fitted so that someone who cannot move his legs can drive it. Any and all questions about
wheelchairs will be answered.

Homeschooling and 4H -- Great Partners!
|
Learning By Doing” is the 4-H motto… and the
homeschooler’s mantra. "Homeschool 4-H" takes an already great program and makes it even better. No longer
centered around livestock, today’s 4-H offers projects as diverse as its members’ interests and imaginations and
provides countless leadership opportunities for youth. Computers, rockets, camping, geocaching, felting, polymer
clay, cooking, sewing, crafts, almost any topic you want to share with youths, can be a 4-H project. Community service and
public speaking are also a big part of 4-H culture. So gather 'round to hear two leaders and two youth talk about how
4-H (yes, 4-H!) can be a homeschoolers’ watering hole, a meeting place, and a hands-on learning cooperative for children
as young as five and as old as 19.

Participants will enjoy constructing basic platonic and
geometric forms to have a guided approach to using them educationally, as well as for fun. We will proceed to use these as

Attendees will apply the Pythagorean theorem to discover
unique geometries contained within the platonic solids, and how they coincide with key measurements found in trigonometry.
They will be amazed by how the Platonic forms interact with each other. A thorough demonstration will be given on _; the golden

We will see in zome and modeling how to enable learning to be kinesthetic. Together we will explore the importance of the

contained within mathematics. (for older youth and adults.)
