Stations, Decks, and Playrooms

The 2008 Conference features more great opportunities for learning and fun than ever before.  We have greatly expanded our offerings of stations, decks, and playrooms organized by themes.

New This Year:
Alchemy Alcove Science Station
Drop by the Grove for hands-on fun for all ages with specially scheduled activities each hour, including:

Friday

11:00 a.m. -- Fossil Fun
Learn how to make a replica of an ammonite or a trilobite. We will be working with sand, plaster and the fossils of creatures that lived hundreds of millions of years ago.

12:00 p.m. -- Nature Rubbings
Rubbing plates of leaves, bugs and dinosaurs will be available during all Alchemy Alcove hours. At noon on Friday, a special ammonite pair will be available for making special fossil rubbings.

1:00 p.m. -- Simply Solar
Help us launch a solar bag. Create a sun print with chemically treated paper and radiographs. Make a bracelets with beads that react to UV rays from the sun.

2:00 p.m. -- Wonderful Water
Learn about buoyancy and the effects of water and air pressure by making Cartesian divers. Create a vortex using a tornado tube.

Sunday

11:00 a.m. -- Super Absorbent Polymers
Play with diapers in the name of scientific investigation. Make it snow in August.

12:00 p.m. -- Kitchen Chemistry
Learn something about carbon dioxide, oxygen, heat, air pressure or just have fun playing with a non-Newtonian fluid.

1:00 p.m. -- Newton's Eggs
Is it magic or a mess? Newton's first law says objects at rest tend to stay at rest. Of course, if those objects are acted upon by outside forces, there can be interesting results.

2:00 p.m. -- Amazing Air
Use Bernoulli's principle to fill wind bags. Have fun with a parachute. Find out what happens when air molecules bounce around in a tube. Play with balloons.

Children's Playroom
The Playroom will entice a child to play for hours, and is a great place to make friends. All younger children are welcome, but children must bring a supervising adult. The Playroom is not intended to be babysitting

Game Deck

The Game Deck, overlooking the lake, has plenty of space for tournaments and games of all sorts. It is a great place to hang out and meet new (and old) friends. There is always someone there, up for a game. Board games and playing cards are available, you are also welcome to bring your own games and cards. This year, we have tournaments for Checkers, Chess, Yu Gi Oh and Magic The Gathering. Learn to play Magic the Gathering. Lesson times will be posted at the Game Deck. All skill levels are welcome, if you are an 'old pro' or just beginning you will find a place, and friends, on the Game Deck. Also, right next to the Game Deck is the Preteen Deck -- an open space to hang out with friends.

Art Deck
Right next to the game deck, overlooking the lake, is the wonderful art deck featuring activities all weekend long. From open art tables to guided crafts such as making fairies, beading, felt crafts, paper mosaics, chinese paper fans, and more. The art deck is a great place to create, relax and make friends.
