Recycled Resource Room – NEW DAY - SATURDAY

Because you have requested it, we are returning the Recycled Resource Room sale to Saturday morning!

Clean out those cupboards and come participate in an HSC tradition – the Recycled Resource Room! This is a terrific way to pass on all that wonderful material you’ve bought over the years but no longer need. It’s also a great place to come and look for bargains!

The Recycled Resource Room (RRR) will be open on Saturday for buyers, between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. There will be lots books, computer and board games, craft items, science kits and more.

The RRR is open to anyone who wants to browse. As always, people who wish to sell items must be registered.

If you want to empty out those closets, bring items pre-tagged with prices to Room 303 Friday between 7:00-9:00 p.m. or Saturday from 6:00-7:00 a.m. Be sure to sign in and bring a self-addressed, stamped envelope for your reimbursement check. These checks will be mailed by September 1 and cannot be issued at the conference. HSC will issue one check per family.

To cover our costs, HSC will be charging sellers a 20 percent participation fee. There will be no additional entry fee. Adjust your prices accordingly. (HSC pays the sales tax and will deduct it out of the 20% participation fee.)

We have set a minimum price of 25¢ per item this year.  You may price as you like, but you might like to know that many people price new or near-new high-end, high-demand items at 50% of original cost. Otherwise, “yard sale” prices are more the norm.

We tally each seller’s payment based on the tags we remove from items sold. Therefore, each item needs to be clearly labeled with your name and a price, both clearly read on a removable tag (please note bullet number four below). You might want to include a short title of the item as well, especially for the pricier items.

Things you can do to help:

·    Use even number pricing (50¢, $1, $2, etc.) – it helps speed up checkout.

·         Try to use no more than 10 different prices (less is even better). This, of course, depends on the number and variety of items you’re selling.

·         Use uniform-sized and colored tags at least 2 inches square (smaller tags can get lost). One half of a 3x5 colored card works well. Please do not use post-it notes because they stick together during the counting phase.

·         Use scotch tape on two sides (top & bottom, or left & right) of each tag to attach it to the OUTSIDE of each item. Please make the length of this tape slightly shorter than the tag to aid in the removal of the tag at checkout. Using more tape makes it next to impossible to remove at checkout; using less contributes to items getting separated from their tags. Please, do not tape diagonally. DO NOT use staples or paper clips. If you have items that tape just won’t stick to, show them to the coordinators when you drop off your items.

·         Bring a few grocery sacks (the paper ones with handles are best) to aid in the checkout process

·         Items are divided for sale by subject area (reading and math are additionally divided by learning level). Remembering this when boxing up your items to bring could save you time when dropping your items off.

To donate the sale price of any item to HSC, write “HSC” on the tag instead of your name.

We do provide a table for free items if you have some things that just don’t seem worth selling but you’d love to see them get into the hands of someone who will appreciate them.

If you want items that are not sold returned to you put a green dot on the tag. Unsold items with green dots must be picked up from the RRR between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Items not retrieved will be donated. Green dots should be very obvious (actually, small filled-in green circles).

Please indicate on your registration form that you will be bringing items to sell. That way, we can notify you if we have any updates. If you’ve already sent in your registration form, or have other questions, contact organizers at
rrr@hscconference.com

Note:
People volunteering at least 4 hours in the RRR will be allowed to buy up to 5 items before the doors open at 7:00 Saturday morning. Only these people and HSC Board Members will be allowed this privilege.

See you at the conference!
