For many of us,
volunteering is part of the conference experience. It just wouldn't be the
same without it. Volunteer this year and you'll find out why.

Whether it's your
first conference or your 18th, whether you have little ones at your side or
in your arms, and whether you have one hour or twelve hours of time to
donate, you can volunteer. There are all kinds of places to volunteer doing

Conference Volunteer F.A.Q.
Here
are the questions most frequently asked by our volunteers. If you dont
see the answers you need, feel free to email us with any questions or
comments, volunteers@hscconference.com
1. How many hours can or should I volunteer? Where do you
need me?
You
can volunteer for one, two or as many as you would like. Every shift
needs to be filled, and every shift is just as important as the next. We
can use everyones help. Volunteering one shift does make a difference.
If you can, please volunteer.

3. How can I volunteer and make sure I don't miss sessions that
I really want to go too?
The
volunteer shifts follow the conference schedule, so you can volunteer around
the sessions you want to attend. Many find it easiest to print out the conference schedule and highlight the ones they want to
attend. Then, look through the volunteer schedule
for shifts during the sessions you havent highlighted. Even if it is just one session, we can use
your help.

4. There is so much that I want to
attend at the conference, everything is highlighted?
Start
the conference off with joining us for The Great Stuff of the welcome bags
with Kate, or give Jeannie a hand with the equipment and supplies. Friday PM, Saturday AM and Sunday PM get to
know the vendors with Kate in the exhibit hall.
Get a sneak peak by volunteering Friday PM or the Saturday early morning
shift in the RRR. We also need
chaperones and other volunteers during the night events, as late as 1:30 am!

5. What is a dedicated volunteer team member?
Dedicated volunteers work only in one specific
area for 12 hours over the course of the conference, after being trained you
will be actively involved in running that area.
This allows us to spend less time on training and insures areas run as
smoothly as possible. You schedule your
volunteer hours with the coordinator you are working with.

You
can call 760-586-5827. If there is no answer, leave a message with your

9. Where can I volunteer with my kids?
In
the volunteer schedule
you can click on the position title (blue header) and it will give details of
the position including information for volunteering with children specific to
that area.
Infants
in a sling or stroller: The raffle table, playroom, art deck,
game deck, and night game room are all great choices.
Toddlers: The
best choices would be the playroom or art deck. Depending on your
toddler's personality, you could consider the game deck and night game
room. We are worried about your toddler becoming bored in other
areas. Please consider your toddler's personality and read position
descriptions before volunteering in other areas.
Kids
over five: The Raffle table, Playroom, art deck, game deck, night
game room or literature bags would all work. You know you childs
personality, you know if they can handle sitting for a couple of
hours coloring or entertaining themselves some other way while
you volunteer. Some areas do say that
children would not be appropriate.
Please read position descriptions carefully before volunteering in
areas.

10. Are there any pre conference jobs that I can help out with
from home?
Yes,
If you are interested in a pre conference position
that can be done from home, please let
us know. While some of these jobs start as many as 10 months before
the conference, others start only a month before, so let us know if
you are interested.

11. How do I volunteer for a staff position?
Conference
staff are all volunteers, they work many long hours to
bring this wonderful conference together.
If you are interested in being active in planning the conference,
please let
us know. We would love to talk to you about where you would like to
help. There are positions that require
active participation all year, others require a little through the year and
then become active a couple months before the conference, and others only
require onsite work at the conference.

12. Do I need to register if I am only planning on volunteering
and not attend any sessions?
Yes,
anyone participating in any way at the conference needs to be a registered
attendee. Registration covers more then sessions and workshops.
Your registration allows you to attend and enjoy any and all of the HSC planned
activities on the hotel grounds. The planned activities change year to
year and may include a talent show, art fair, family concert, dance or even a
lunch time round table discussion group. We ask that attendees wear their
badges while in any of the conference areas.

14. How do I receive my Volunteer Rebate?
Rebates
are distributed at the Conference after volunteer hours are completed and
processed.
Submit
a REBATE REQUEST FORM to the Volunteer Coordinator BEFORE you start
volunteering. After you have finished
your volunteer hours, turn in a SIGNED VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE to the Volunteer
Coordinator. Turn it in IMMEDIATELY after you have completed your
volunteer schedule. Delaying can delay
your rebate. Your hours and registration
fee will be verified, and then your rebate will be processed. Rebate check distribution times depend on
individual schedules. Rebate checks not
picked up will be mailed.
Remember,
you must still register for the conference. Pay your registration fees by
mail, online, or at the conference. How ever you would normally register.
